In today’s digital world, data moves fast—and often across multiple systems. In legal, anonymization is not just a safeguard but a necessity. We know that there are situations where anonymization is not an option, for example when summarizing cases or extracting information from documents for further processing.  But we also know that there are some situations and sensitive cases where disclosure is not an option and where controlling what personal data leaves your organization is crucial. At BRYTER, we believe you should have that choice. That’s why we’ve built BEAMON Privacy Shield—a feature that gives you control over how and when Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is shared.

What BEAMON Privacy Shield Does

When activated, BEAMON Privacy Shield automatically redacts sensitive PII before it is sent to third-party providers such as Legal Sources, Web Search, or Partners. This ensures that your queries remain powerful and effective, while also keeping privacy in your hands.

The Privacy Shield covers:

  • Individuals: names
  • Organizations: companies, institutions
  • Contact details: addresses, emails, phone numbers, IP addresses
  • Financial data: credit card and bank account numbers
  • Identity information: passports, social security, health insurance details
  • Vehicle details: license plates, registration numbers

By redacting this information, BEAMON reduces the risk of unintended exposure when working with sensitive content.

Whitelisting for Accuracy

To make the Privacy Shield smarter, we maintain a whitelist of organization names that should never be redacted—terms like “court,” “government,” or “parliament.”
We also know that companies have specific requirements. That’s why we are planning to make this whitelist configurable per tenant, allowing organizations to add custom entries for their use cases.

Why It Matters

Privacy should never be an afterthought. With BEAMON Privacy Shield, you stay in control of what information is shared, when it is shared, and how it is protected. It combines automation with flexibility, giving you the confidence to use powerful third-party integrations without compromising on compliance or trust.
At BRYTER, we see this as an important step in empowering our users: making PII protection optional, flexible, and user-controlled.
