Getting to Document Automation Boss Level: Key Takeaways

Watch the video

Document automation is a core functionality that many organizations are keen to leverage. It lies at the heart of numerous use cases, particularly in legal technology.

In one of our recent webinars, “Getting to Document Automation Boss Level,” Max Paterson, Managing Director for the US at BRYTER, and Joshua Farmer, Solutions Consultant, delved into the intricacies of document automation, demonstrating its transformative potential for legal teams, and showed us how to use it at an advanced level.

Introduction to Document Automation

Max Paterson kicked off the webinar by emphasizing the significance of document automation.

“Document automation is a core functionality,” Paterson stated. He pointed out that this capability spans various aspects of business processes, making it a critical component for legal operations, innovation teams in law firms, as well as other sectors.

Evaluation Criteria for Document Automation

To provide context for the discussion, Paterson introduced some evaluation criteria for document automation functionality.

These criteria include:

  1. Data Handling: The ability to bring in, push, store, and create data.
  2. Conditional Logic: Incorporating conditional logic in documents, such as clauses that vary based on specific conditions.
  3. Formulas: Using formulas for calculations within documents.
  4. Loops and Repeats: Reusing information multiple times without burdening the end-user.
  5. Document Sets: Creating multiple documents from individual responses.

Paterson highlighted, “These aren’t just evaluation criteria. These are necessary elements, features and functionality that should be the baseline of any robust document automation solution.”

Live Demonstration of Document Automation

Joshua Farmer took over to present a live demonstration of BRYTER’s document automation capabilities.

The demo showcased the creation of a lease agreement, illustrating various features and functionalities.

Data Integration and Document Construction

The demo started with an intake form built on BRYTER’s no-code platform, which integrated data from Salesforce and other sources.

“This is a live list that connects directly to this list of accounts here in Salesforce,” Farmer explained, demonstrating how address and other information were automatically populated in the document.

Farmer highlighted the dynamic aspect of the platform: “Our table has been generated, and you’ve got the total amount because we’re storing within our service catalogue what the monthly amount is for these additional services.”

Handling Conditions and Automation

The platform’s ability to handle conditions and automation was a key focus.

For instance, clauses were dynamically included or excluded based on user selections.

“These templates were uploaded from Word, and then you can essentially just choose which values go into which placeholder area,” Farmer elaborated.

Scaling and Maintaining Document Automation

Paterson addressed the scalability and maintenance of document automation solutions.

“Integrations are key. You never wanna do something in a vacuum pulling in information from existing sources, re-uploading them to others,” he remarked. Clean data handling and relational databases were emphasized as crucial elements for a functional system.

Embedding and Customization

One notable advantage of BRYTER’s platform is its flexibility in embedding and customization.

Paterson mentioned, “If you’re releasing it internally, you can embed these tools directly into Salesforce, into Teams, into SharePoint, into your intranet.”

Maintenance and Updates

Updating and maintaining document automation tools are essential for their long-term viability. Paterson assured, “If the template changes, you updated and re-uploaded.”

The no-code platform allows easy modifications, making it straightforward to keep the system up-to-date.

Future Prospects and AI Integration

The webinar also touched on the future of document automation, particularly the integration of generative AI.

BRYTER has various AI capabilities, such as document extraction, summarization, and comparative analysis.

“These are the types of very specific things that we try and drill down to and get very tailored,” Paterson explained, emphasizing the importance of minimizing hallucinations by being specific about the AI’s tasks.

Conclusion

The BRYTER webinar provided a comprehensive overview of document automation, demonstrating its powerful features and highlighting its potential for transforming business processes.

With a no-code platform that supports robust data integration, dynamic document construction, and seamless integration with other systems, BRYTER is well-positioned to help organizations achieve their document automation goals.

Document automation is indeed at the “boss level” with platforms like BRYTER, offering organizations the tools they need to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and drive innovation.
