Bertelsmann Legal Team chooses BRYTER for first pilot of legal AI

Bertelsmann is one of the world’s largest media conglomerates with its subsidiaries including Penguin Random House and Arvato. Stefanie Briefs, Senior Legal Counsel and Lead of Legal Tech HR, explains why they chose BRYTER for their pilot to enable HR business partners to access HR regulations.

“We chose BRYTER for our first pilot of a legal AI solution because their AI Agents are specifically designed to meet the needs of a legal team and the HR business partners. For us, this meant four key things:

  • First, all AI-generated answers needed to include links back to the original source documents to ensure transparency and allow users to verify the underlying information.
  • Second, we required a user-friendly solution with easily understandable responses.
  • Third, the quality of the answers had to be exceptionally high, with no room for errors or hallucinations.
  • Finally, the solution had to comply with our stringent data privacy and security standards. BRYTER’s AI Agents met all these requirements, and their customer care has been outstanding.”

Bertelsmann recognized the potential of generative AI as an effective solution for providing employees with access to comprehensive HR regulations. The employment law team and HR departments receive numerous requests, and the nature of some these questions means that the answers are available in company handbooks and documents – if you have the time and know where to look. To address this issue, Bertelsmann focused on implementing a solution that leverages generative AI to automate responses to employment law-related queries, making essential information readily accessible to all employees.

“We have just successfully completed the first pilot phase using BRYTER’s AI Agents with over 100 HR business partners and see great potential in this tool. One significant outcome of our test was that users often can’t distinguish whether information comes from internal or external regulations. This makes a tool that incorporates labour law content particularly attractive to us. We are optimistic that a tool like this could relieve our legal professionals from routine inquiries and empower our HR business partners and, eventually, all employees to access (internal) information 24/7 in any language.” Stefanie Briefs, Senior Legal Counsel and Lead of Legal Tech HR, Bertelsmann
