Hackathon: Streamlining Legal Life with BRYTER

Legal Life Hackathon

Around 20 law students leveraged the BRYTER platform and their own knowledge to come up with innovative software solutions.

Contribution from David Koelliker

During a 2-day hackathon in Düsseldorf, jointly organized by the European Law Students Association (ELSA) and Fieldfisher, German law students used BRYTER no-code platform to build ready-to-go software solutions that enable legal professionals to work faster and more effectively.

Set up for the hackathon

In groups of three to five students, and supported by lawyers from Fieldfisher, we worked through a variety of different use cases and created software solutions with the intention to streamline legal processes and/or decision making. By the time the 2 days had elapsed, the teams created a number of legal software solutions:

Team 1: Assessment helping startups to choose the suitable legal form.

Team 2: A claim examination tool tailored to the construction industry.

Team 3: An assessment to check whether a company has a dominant position in the EU market.

Team 4: GDPR compliance consultation application for website operators.

Team 5: Generators for employment contracts and termination notices.

Collective feedback

Due to BRYTER intuitive and understandable compliance process automation interface, all participants quickly understood how to use the no-code platform. As a result, the teams realized first drafts soon and tangible success was quickly achieved. General perception of BRYTER was very positive. Although I was the only one who had worked with the BRYTER workflow automation platform before and had some prior insight, all participants were able to quickly get used to the toolset.

The diversity of use cases and outcomes showed the myriad ways BRYTER no-code can be utilized, which included the provision of «actual» legal advice, complex calculations and document automation.

Applying a no-code app builder in the context of a legal hackathon seems a proven concept but brings unforeseen challenges and possibilities every time. The teams discovered a number of new applications possible and gave valuable feedback on additional features.
